Hello there

http://i.imgur.com/SDc5HN1.jpg

I wish to become this 'Smartbook' EPC a 800 MHZ with 256 MB RAM that could to install Android but Windows CE is installed in that one. Could any Gnu/Linux distribution to run instead of Android? How could I to add the script of EPC's Smartbooks in the .ISO image of Trisquel netinstall?

You must know that EPC's Smartbooks have no BiOS, so they should to boot with SD Card... probably EPC smartbook need this script to boot at SD Card?

I am sniffing the web searching to know more about it, I hope to learn how to make some scripts if needed.

If it is an Intel/AMD architecture, Trisquel NetInstall should run. You could even try Trisquel Mini. Otherwise, Debian (without the "contrib" and the "nonfree" sections of the software repository). The laptop must have a BIOS. Try writing the Live ISO on the SD card.

My gut says that isn't an X86 system. Trisquel won't work if my gut is right. Windows CE usually ran (always or almost always?) on non-X86 devices. No BIOS is probably also a pretty big hint that it isn't X86. Though I'm assuming we're being pretty broad in scope when we say BIOS.

You're in trouble, I think that it has a ARM cpu with no BIOS, so, it's a trash hardware. ARM has a fully restricted boot. I searched for buy a one chinesse Andorid/WindowsCE netbook, but you get it fully restricted, you can't isntall anything. Don't buy this cheap restricted/propietary/privative/freedomless/closed source trash.

That is not exactly true. The "restricted boot" on ARM generally applies to devices running Windows (not Win CE). Now some may need a non-free stage one loader (that loads u-boot), but that is rare on many of these sub / cheap machines like the one pictured. I have had a few of these and they are not restricted in any way. No, you won't be able to run "Trisquel" on it, but you can run many other things on it (if you know what you are doing and have the time to hack on it).

"Now some may need a non-free stage one loader (that loads u-boot)"

The issue is: what the free stage one loader you suggest me, I prefer to ask here instead of other places.

Lacks something to boot him. I wish to know what lacks in Trisquel netinstall to make it? Please tell me if possible, I need to know everything if needed, information around of it sparsely spreaded through internet.

Not '(OFF) Debian' necessarily, only tell if possible the specificities of the 'how to boot free software at ARM?'. Thank you.

Hi dear,

Excuse my ignorance, but if nothing stop the boot at least the SD Card read that script, what would be of him freedomless?

Yes, it's ARM 8650.
I found that there are Debian's solutions to EPC's Smartbooks.
We should to encourage what supports software freedom.
If he runs Debian so also must to run a fully free distribution.
But free as in freedom never will be easy.
