Greetings to everybody.
A few days ago I wondered how many women are part of the Trisquel's community, what are their stories, experiences, what their main challenges and aspirations, both in the field of free software, of course, the struggle for gender equality too.
So I decided to publish this post in all Trisquel's forums.
Let's see what we find.
Of course, I appreciate your participation.
A hug
interesting...
Im a woman
If that hepls? :)
Any connection to Tom?
She's his sister.
Awesome, and welcome. Wish I could convince my siblings to join me with Trisquel.
Hi there Rosie, how are you?
Thanks a lot for reply this post. First of all, please excuse my English :S
If you don't feel uncomfortable, could you share with us your experiences like Trisquel user in terms of the respect of people towards you or women near you? it is, do you think that some people here is sexist?
If you think this is not an issue for the public forum, could you reply using the Trisquel email account for the forum users?
Have a nice day.
I think being man or woman is as irrelevant as being tall or fat or whatever. People in the forum are just people interested in free software.
Yeah but I don't see anything wrong about asking that.
Maybe I should open a thread asking about anybody else that have in some point in life intentionally lost 15kg of body mass :)
I'm refreshing the page, yet your thread hasn't come up yet. When are you going to post it? :p
But yea, all this stuff is unimportant.
Do you really think there are fat people on these forums? Oh my. I wonder what are their stories and experiences? What are their main challenges and aspirations, both in the field of free software, and of course, the struggles with their unusual weight too.
Hugs.
You know, I'm fat ! :-)
Stories, experiences? I don't have much to say-- I'm pretty dull. :p
Aspirations IRL? Moving to The Principality of Sealand.
Aspirations in the field of free software... well, I'm getting through this big C++ book. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute with the book's aid, eventually.
In the field of gender equality? In my country, there isn't too much of a problem. Gender equality is a big problem in several other parts of the world, however.
...
I'm half-kidding, half-serious about Sealand.
"well, I'm getting through this big C++ book."
If you ever need any C/C++ programming advice feel free to ask!
Thanks, tom. =w=

Hello Jaded, how are you?
It seems I was not clear enough and for that reason may be I must adjust my question:
Do you think the people on the free software in general and specifically on the Trisquel forum is sexist? Do you think this is relevant for the free software movement spreading? Why or why not?
Thanks again for your reply.
I do not think people here are sexist, online they do not care about your age/race/sexuality/sex/ect. I think the general sexist issue is in reality.
Like I had to take my laptop in yesterday, because they could not believe I would know how to fit a universal charger and would not sell me the charger unless I took in the laptop. So, I did. and they went on about how it should show it charged in windows, and I told them: "I do not use windows" and they LAUGHED at me.
so, yeah.
I disagree with the interpretation that these events are signs of a sexism problem. I'm sure these people did make a generalized assumption about you because of your sex, and yes, that is a sexist stereotype (the same way it is a sexist stereotype that boys are troublemakers in school), but it's generally true, so I don't see it as a particular problem. Assumptions like these make our daily interactions much smoother for the most part.
The problem in situations like these, at least assuming they're being related correctly, is rudeness and smugness, nothing more and nothing less. It would be just as much of a problem without sexist stereotypes. I suspect there will always be rude, smug people, so it's not a problem that can be solved; we just have to live with it.
I don't call it sexism. I call it being an idiot. It usually has to do with low IQ. Often, lack of education. Other times fear (of women).
cheers
I assumed all users having fake women name :) lol.
