Can anybody tell me how Trisquel is secured or point me to docs on it?

Mainly, I'd like to know if it's using selinux, apparmor, anti-viris, and chkrootkit. And info on the firewall would also help.

As for the firewall, you need to install it yourself. Firestarter (and probably others as well) is available in the repositories.

... so you mean there's not firewall enabled by default?

That's right. I think it is (or was) the same situation as in Ubuntu, you need to install it yourself.

GNU/Linux is infinitely more secure than Windows or MacOS as it is. While virus scanning is unlikely to do anything but slow down your system, a firewall might be a useful security measure if you're running a server. It's not really necessary to install security software on GNU/Linux since the amount of malware that targets or affects it can be counted on one little hand, and because obtaining root access remotely is nearly impossible anyway; the kernel developers do everything they can to ensure that it stays that way.

If you don't believe me, I encourage you to Google it. GNU/Linux and especially BSD architectures are their own best malware protection.

I know that; it's one of the reasons I only run linux when I can. But, not all of us stay in the nice and safe areas of the internet. If you get what I mean. That and even though malicious rarely has a chance against linux because of how much goes in to it's writing and up keep there is still a very very very small percent of malicious code out there to break into a linux box. it's the people that make that small percent that I'm keeping an eye on.

One man's paranoia is another man's redundant security...

Well, then you are free to install it in a few seconds. But it burdens the majority of us wholesome GNU/Linux users to include security software in the distro by default. :)
