How to translate sentences

Hi,
I use https://translate.g00gl3.*/ to translate. Could you recommend something similar?
Thanks again.
You should check **apertium**, I have used it to translate from English to Spanish and it worked really great.
Problem is apertium supports only a few languages so far, but they are planning to add more in the future. Anyway the program works great and is quite powerful.
sudo apt-get install apertium apertium-tolk apertium-en-es
**aptitude search apertium** will show you the translation packages available
gnu@debian:~$ aptitude search apertium

P.S: On debian the GUI didn't work until I installed the package **python-glade2**
apertium-tolk doesn't work right. ;(
(python-glade2 already installed)
"apertium-tolk doesn't work right. ;("
If you give more details it will be easier to help you.
Hmm, I just installed it on this installation and it won't run without python-glade2
gnu@debian:~$ apertium-tolk
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/apertium-tolk", line 19, in
import tolk
File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/tolk/__init__.py", line 1, in
from i18n import _
File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/tolk/i18n.py", line 2, in
import gtk.glade
ImportError: No module named glade
So then I installed the missing package as already mentioned and it works just fine.
Write in terminal:
apertium-tolk
and give us the output
/usr/bin/apertium-tolk:69: GtkWarning: IA__gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size: assertion 'icon_size != GTK_ICON_SIZE_INVALID' failed
self.glade = tolk.GladeXML(path) # Instantiate our custom Glade class which extends the gtk.glade.GladeXML class
es-catalan works right, I think.
es-en doesn't work. only takes the first word, and only get translated the word 'hola'. No one else. :(
I have no idea, srry.
I can only assure you it works fine here :(

* I hate G00gl3 because of they steal our ideas, data and our lives.
#SoftwareLibre
There should be a Libre alternative to the site https://translate.google.com/, where no data is recollected and used against users.
Tor would do that just fine. The real problem with Google Translate is that it's SaaSS.
Tor provides anonymity, but companies still receive data. :(
Yeah, that's because it's SaaSS. The only solution to this is for the translation software to be running on your own computer and libre. You can't solve SaaSS by creating an alternative SaaSS solution.
Use Apertium.
If you want to use Apertium graphically (in a user-friendly way),
install "apertium-tolk" (with the O letter). Of course, you can also
visit the project's official site and download the latest version and
dictionaries. And it's advised that you contribute to Apertium in some
way too. They really need it!
Don't recommend web translators because they are services as software
substitutes (look up for this term in GNU.org to find out more about the
dangers. I can't give links nouw because I'm somewhat late).
http://fosmt.org/ may help you
Hey guys.
I have installed apertium, apertium-tolk, python-glade2, and all the available languages. However both in command line and in GUI it only translates the first word. For example:
"Hello my good friend"
only gives me "Hola".
Is something wrong on my part??
When run from command line it says "Error: Unknown error matching regexp (code -28)"
Also when I run the GUI from command line it says
"/usr/bin/apertium-tolk:69: GtkWarning: IA__gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size: assertion 'icon_size != GTK_ICON_SIZE_INVALID' failed
self.glade = tolk.GladeXML(path) # Instantiate our custom Glade class which extends the gtk.glade.GladeXML class"
Another thing I would like to say is that it would be cool if we could "cross translate" using the available translations. For example, translate from english to spanish and then from spanish to another language that has no direct translation from english. I tried it using the online version and it worked (with the obvious mistakes one was to expect).
Another good thing would be to have a way to translate subtitles with this ;)
Maybe I should stop asking for things to happen and should instead get off my ass and do a little programming... :P
Hope someone can help with the error mentioned above.
Maybe try to delete and reinstall again. I doubt just restating the computer would fix anything here.
Already tried and it doesn't work any better.
A couple of silly questions:
1.) What happens without using quotes
2.) What happens using single quotes 'Hello my good friend' instead of "Hello my good friend"
that is not the reason why it is not working. What is the version of apertium in Trisquello? Here, apertium=3.1.0-2 and apertium-tolk=0.2-2.2
Hey there.
That's the same version. For both.
I have tried actually using a file as input and the same thing happens. So, not sure why it happens.
It would be a convenience if it was working. I didn't know there were offline alternatives to google translator, and certainly not free ones as good as apertium.
1. apertium version on its web is: 3.3.2. (2016-01-02)
When will Trisquel update this package?
2. apertium has a translation web: https://www.apertium.org. Could we use it or we must not because it is a SaaS?
Thanks,
1. Probably when Ubuntu does (maybe Trisquel 8, not sure).
2. It's SaaSS but it's better than using google... Perfect would be to use apertium in your own computer (hopefully you will have it running better than I do).
es-en doesn't work.
And other translations are not as good as they should be. :(
Please, someone recommend a good free translator. :)
Trisquel 8 will have version 3.4: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/apertium
I successfully installed it (.deb after .deb) on Trisquel 7 but it does not work:
