Icecat Javascript and Google

It seems like javascript is disabled in icecat, at least for google.com. There is no instant search, and I can't have my customised homepage or other stuff.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've checked preferences and javascript is enabled, and checked in about:config, but couldn't see anything there that should cause any problems.

Hello, <name at domain>:
I _suppose_ this happens as a way from the GNU Project to prevent the
JavaScript Trap on Google [1], but I'm not really sure... Which version of
Trisquel GNU/Linux and of GNU IceCat are you using (I don't have GNU IceCat
available on 4.0).
Hmm, I don't think it's that... Gmail functionality seems to be fine in
both webbrowser and icecat on Trisquel 4.5, not a problem there. I have
also tried gmail and google.com on Trisquel 5.0 which just has icecat,
and I get the same problem, so it seems to be icecat.
Here are two screenshots showing the differences.

Hmm, the problem seems to go away if I enable the add-ons, such as
https-everywhere and the others that come with icecat... All rather
weird.

Okay, it seems to be the GNU Gnuzilla Privacy extension, if that's
disabled it causes the problem... With it enabled I have had other
problems though, before it would not let me switch from German Google to
English Google.
Have just tested that, and it seems to still stop me from switching to
English Google.
What a pain all this is...
This is why I like plain vanilla browsers, without add-ons which so
often cause little annoyances like this.

IceCat 5.0 *is* available on Trisquel 4.0 Taranis: http://packages.trisquel.info/search?keywords=icecat&searchon=names&suite=taranis-updates
What I dislike the most about these Firefox variants is that they change the user agent string. Of course they have "Firefox" somewhere in the user agent, but why can't they all be uniform and use the main user agent of the stock Firefox?
I actually believe that Mozilla's trademark on Firefox would prohibit the use of the same user agent string.
