Icedove hangs (window goes gray) frequently in Trisquel 7.0

In Trisquel 7.0 (fresh install) Icedove frequently (several times in a span of a few hours) hangs, by which I mean its window goes completely gray and doesn't come back from that state. I have to kill it and run it again, till the same thing happens maybe an hour later. Checking its process, I haven't noticed any CPU spikes before or after this happens. My desktop environment is LXDE. This happened on a fresh install, to which I had added Icedove, and updating didn't solve the problem. I don't have this problem on another machine which has Trisquel 6.0 and Thunderbird, which I installed, as far as I remember, before the Mozilla rebranding issue and the decision to replace Thunderbird with Icedove in Trisquel.
But I doubt this is an Icedove-specific problem, given that, as far as I know, except for the rebranding and the add-ons repositories Icedove is the same as Thunderbird.
I suspect this may be caused by the graphics card, but no other program (including Abrowser) is showing these symptoms.
A similar problem happens when I use KeepassX's "Global Auto-Type Shortcut" to enter my GPG pass phrase for Enigmail in the pinetry window: Icedove stops responding; the pinentry window doesn't go gray, but if I try to move it, it leaves a gray trace behind. This doesn't happen if I manually enter my pass phrase (or copy past it) in the same pinentry window.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I should look to start finding the culprit?
I also had this problem frequently with Icedove. One day I just gave up and started using Evolution...
I have no idea but a quick search gave me these links:
A couple of them is talking about an "alert sound that points to an inexisting file".

Basically in few words that is this:
Hi again, all sorted. I found a known TB bug with the same problem and some suggestions that disabling the new mail sound alert would fix it. I tried that but it still froze. I then disabled the 'show message alert' function (which hadn't worked anyway) and now new emails are coming in fine, no freezing.
Thanks
Hopefully that's all it is
I thought this was strictly an Orca problem, and was contemplating a full-time switch to mutt or alpine for mail. The problem became apparent the first time I used enygmail to sign a message. The problem seems to have vanished as mysteriously as it began appearing. Still have enygmail, and lightning extensions in icedove.
Cheers,
Dave

SuperTramp83's reply (and the links therein) rose a suspicion in me that maybe this was caused by some add-on, and a possible conflict it may have with the window manager of my desktop environment, although, as I said, the same versions of the same add-ons are installed on another machine with Trisquel 6.0 and Thunderbird (and the same window manager and desktop environment) and there's no problem there.
It turned out the problem was caused by the add-on FireTray (which I use to minimize Icedove/Thunderbird to an icon in the panel). I've disabled the FireTray add-on for now and things seem to be working fine.
Thanks to everyone for your input.
It's true the problem was caused by the add-on FireTray specially in the systems based on Ubuntu. Now FireTray has been upgraded to version 6 and it is fixed this problem.
