Having followed the upgrade prompt from 9.0 to 10.0, I noticed accelerating deterioration over a couple of days. I assumed that updates would solve these problems. But now I can get no further than command: "initramfs". I downloaded and burned a disc to reinstall but "initramfs" is ever my finis .
I have tried dozens of dozens of start ups and I can conclude that I get past the first password but after that it's the Busy Box "initramfs".

Please try using the net installer contained on this file,

https://builds.trisquel.org/debian-installer-images/debian-installer-images_20101020ubuntu614.3+10.0trisquel10_amd64.tar.gz

I might be wrong, but that might solve the issue or at least get you further on the installation.

Regards.

Are you suggesting that I download the package from your first link, on to a thumb drive, and then using that in a way similar to an installation disc, onto the failing computer? At the moment I don't see that happening. I'm a million miles away from enter that link into the failing computer's browser.

Here's the recurring screen data:

[ 0.080693] DMAR: Failed to map dmar2
^[[B

BusyBox v1.30.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.30.1-4ubuntu6.4) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) _

I've tried many of the 'help' commands but don't know where to take them.

After considerable research and indirect contemplation (doing other things) here's what I did to get my computer back from (initramfs). I needed to do an fsck -- file system check and repair of my computer's partitions.

After (initramfs) I typed: blkid then pressed ENTER
Blkid showed me my partitions
After (initramfs) I typed: fsck (name of each partition) then pressed ENTER. Each partition was "fsck"d separately.
One partition, one of three "trisquel--vg" partitions, needed "y" affirmations numerous times (possibly hundreds) to fix errors in that partition.
Then, after the next (initramfs) showed I typed: reboot
Viola, my computer is back.

My success was short lived. I repeated the same steps I took when first starting up at the upgrade from Etiona to Nabia several days ago:
I opened Gimp. Noticed it wasn't working. Sought to reinstall.
Sought to update. Checked for new updates. Installed all updates. Computer breakdown.
What's worse my latest attempt to do fsck on partitions has failed.

This could be an indicator of file system corruption. I hope you have a backup.

I do have a back up. I'm ok. But I prefer getting this computer running again over tossing it.

Oh for sure - I didn't mean tossing it. Files system corruption can be handled by reformatting the affect drive(s). That's where having a good backup is important.

Now that you mention it, I noticed in my backups that there were three folders containing documents (bearing Windows colors) entitled "invalid encoding" in my home folder.

I'll try ( I think I can get there) to get to the home folder of the computer in question by way of Terminal and then delete those folders.

Thanks for the suggestion.
