installing trisquel from ubuntu?

i have an hp pavillion dv1000 , long time with no use, i had windows xp and ubuntu 11.01, i cant boot from cd, neither from usb, the windows wont charge, but ubuntu works fine, just slow, so how can i install trisquel from ubuntu? the easy and fast way

Um, better check you Ubuntu version because there is no such thing as an "Ubuntu 11.01." Did you mean 11.10?

If you were using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) it would be possible to cross-grade over to Trisquel 6.0.1. Assuming that you meant Ubuntu 11.10 one option is to upgrade to 12.04 and then cross-grade over to Trisquel.

Other than that, debootstrap?

Anyway, your options are somewhat limited given the restrictions you've provided.

Try changing the BIOS settings. If you cannot boot into bios, lookup on the internet which button to press.

While I guess it is possible that an old computer couldn't boot from either, have you looked at the BIOS setup?

It might be possible to change the boot order so that USB or CD would be before HDD.
