Please make it work with libreboot. :)

https://libreboot.org/faq/#bsd

The kernel named Linux can work just fine without a Video BIOS.

Good luck. Maybe it would be better to do the development against OpenBSD, instead of LibertyBSD, so that upstream gets the patches and it gives us less development work every new release. Kind of like how libreboot doesn't accept patches that would be useful to coreboot.

Fantastic job! Are you applying for FSF-approval?

Is there a link to discussions in this sense?

Yea-- any news on approval, orthogonal?

From the website:

"* Is LibertyBSD a "FSF-approved" distro?
No. We're trying to get it approved, though."

Yeah. I haven't taken any steps recently about that. I spoke to jxself about it a while ago, but it never resolved.

So, jxself:
Is there anything else that I need to do to get FSF approved?

Probably post in an FSF mailing list for evaluation.

Okay, done. Can you give an estimate of how long the approval process will take?

jxself

At least several months.

.....and out of curiousity, how many months are we into that now (and, if foreseeable, how many are left)?

Not really. It is very hard to predict this stuff, especially if changes need to be made because that raises issues of how quickly any concerns are addressed. It looks like at least one has already been identified so it seems the ball is back in orthogonal's court.

Hi,

This is very nice, OpenBSD is a very attractive BSD distribution, but it's non-free. It's the BSD distribution I'm the most attracted to.

As for libreboot support, it should be possible to add it, just by using coreboot with the right options, SeaBIOS, SeaVGABIOS and just installing libreBSD normally.

I found that the SeaVGABIOS option rom works better when the GPU is in native mode (not in VGA mode).

I'd like to try it, I guess I'll do when it's RYF.
As famous videos show, OpenBSD only takes 5min to install anyway, so I don't think libreBSD would take much longer.

(edited for clarity)

Denis.

It seem supported only for amd64:
http://libertybsd.net/pub/LibertyBSD/5.8/

Some libreboot laptops would be left behind.

Is there some i386 version, or how to bootstrap i386?

PS: For bugreporting non-free stuff it's here:

(edited v2)

Denis.

Orthogonal, you should submit LibertyBSD to DistroWatch: https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=submit

It was submitted on 2016-02-03. But given the long waiting list (the oldest submission still in the list was on 2007-10-30!), one have to be patient... or "buy an advertising banner": http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=submit
