Has the fsf approved or not approved this bsd distro yet?
please excuse spelling using lynx with no spellcheck
It has not (yet?): https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-non-gnu-distros.html
You actually spelled everything correctly, and unusually have capitalized the first letter of your sentence. :-)
There's open source software, and there's free software.
Being willing to release source code qualifies as the former, but demanding donations for access means it isn't free.
What? That's not true. You can demand anything you want before releasing a program to the public-- not that you'll get it.
The donation-release was disabled, anywho, and LibertyBSD was released despite not reaching it's goal.
Selling free software is OK: https://gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html
The definition of free software has nothing to do with price: https://gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html

As others have pointed out, requiring something in exchange for a copy
of a program does not exclude a program from being free software.
If you'd like to know what does distinguish Free Software from Open
Source, I suggest you read two essays:
An older essay:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html
A newer essay:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html
Both essays are on the same topic -- distinguishing Free Software from
Open Source. I think you'll find there are many differences:
- starting date,
- who's involved,
- why each began,
- what each has said about the other,
- who is the target audience for each,
- and the most important difference: what each has to say about a user's
software freedoms and the practical (sometimes radically different)
results from those philosophical choices.
They're certainly not the same, the differences matter (particularly
because they sometimes lead to radically different results), and the
differences can be seen on the ground today.
..demanding donations for access means just that - it costs money! Most of the proprietary software on windblowz is gratis. Does that mean that it is free software? nope!
Free software hasn't got anything to do with money. It just happens to be almost always gratis, and always non malicious and freedom respecting.
That is the central point of free software and the main reason why I use it: it is software that respects the user so the user actually uses a computer and not the other way around.
I actually pity those poor dudes who think their windose software is gratis. facebook is gratis. google mail is gratis. skype is gratis. whatsapp is gratis (1 euro per year means gratis). All those mega corporations giving you their hard work and services for free and earning billions..
But..wait..If all these "benefactors of the humanity" give us their software for 0 dollars (after having spent a lot of time and money to build that software) how come they get richer and richer?
Simple - a very large percent of the proprietary software is malware (if I had to guess I'd say 50% is adware/spyware) and that is how gratis (if we talk about windose and such) doesn't mean gratis at all! Spying on users, building up precise, rich profiles and selling this info to the highest bidder does not spell "gratis" in my dictionary, but "criminal", "illegal", "unethical".....
Such scam. Much terrible.
Much scam. Such terrible.
Now. What about this NuBSD. Where are the link to this? Or some article at least?
I don't know the status of this project. There is still something available to download from JadedCtrl's mirror at 'mirrors.jadedfs.net/libertybsd_cd_install.iso' and the ports by alimiracle are here, libertybsd.net/pub/LibertyBSD/5.6/ports/ports.tar.gz
Has anyone had any success with LibertyBSD?
i successfully installed it and it worked so i guess i have had success with liberty bsd
It looks like LibertyBSD is N/A.
The website (libertybsd.net) seems to be down...
Can anyone confirm this? Anyone know of a full mirror?
here is a mirror:
http://valence.mike.free.fr/pub/LibertyBSD/
but the site is still up:

still don’t see why its taking so long to be reviewed by the fsf though
Thanks, tom!
My bad, guess it's on my end!
> still don’t see why its taking so long to be reviewed by the fsf though
One has to ask the fsf for a review. I think most bsd people dislike the fsf as they have a very different notion of freedom, and don't mind proprietary software (obvious if you look at their license).
