If you make a debian installation, you get a libre system. Is there a listing of distributions which after installation are libre software systems?

FSF has this to say on the subject. You can always disable non-free repos, uninstall proprietary software and deblob the kernel with any distribution. Some distributions would otherwise be free/libre but they make the mistake of recommending non-free code.

https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html

https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html

Fedora does have a clear policy about what can be included in the distribution, and it seems to be followed carefully. The policy requires that most software and all fonts be available under a free license, but makes an exception for certain kinds of nonfree firmware. Unfortunately, the decision to allow that firmware in the policy keeps Fedora from meeting the free system distribution guidelines.

I am curious: what GNU/Linux distribution besides Debian?

Fedora is not among them: it comes with a kernel that includes proprietary software. https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/linux-libre/freed-ora.en.html proposes packaged free substitutes though, in the same way that https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ proposes packaged free substitutes for for the kernels of Debian-based distributions.

I have no idea. At the time of writing I was thinking of Debian.

The quote seemed to imply something that you refuted, and I'm not disputing that. I really didn't give it much more thought beyond that.

No, I did not. You put an "s" to "distribution" and, like I wrote, I was curious.

Yes, you're right about Fedora and I should've included this quote about Debian instead. I was unscrupulous; didn't read the quote with due diligence.

With the release of Debian 6.0 (“squeeze”) in February 2011, these blobs have been moved out of the main distribution to separate packages in the nonfree repository. However, the problem partly remains: the installer in some cases recommends these nonfree firmware files for the peripherals on the machine.

It is an error to call only fsf approved systems libre. If you install debian and add no non libre software, it is libre.

Debian is the only non fsf approved distribution which provide
the option of a libre installation?

I'm reminded of
[[https://www.gnu.org/distros/optionally-free-not-enough.html]]. :)

As the text posted by ADFENO makes explicit, it's not enough to have a "switch" that allows you to be free. In order to recommend one, this distro must be free and follow the free software philosophy, there is no such a thing as half free. Half free software is not free software.

Thinking about librepup using trisquel's packages

https://freepo.st/post/b3efy88e

though it's probably not up to date (https://notabug.org/dimkr/woof-CE-libre), one could use it to wake up an old computer and make it free.

I like Debian, I really do. I don't like that thing about stability that makes you uninstal the whole DE when you wish to uninstal or replace an application.
