MBR or GPT as partition style?:)

Wiping the computer and would like to hete your two cents about different partition styles:)
My (limited) understanding is that you should use MBR for BIOS systems and GPT for UEFI.
But why?:)
And what do you mean by "systems"? OSs?
Yeah, I have a MacBook 9.1 (2012) which is running/using/having UEFI firmware.
But in Disk Utility I can choose between three "partition styles". Namely GUID Partition Table, something something Apple thing and Master Boot Record.
Anybody in here have experience on what is the pros and cons?
partition scheme is the correct term I think. To what I called "partition style".
I use GPT whenever possible. It's possible to load GNU/Linux installed on a GPT disk even on a legacy BIOS based computer, as long as the BIOS firmware is not so awkwardly designed. (One example is that some HP computers require an active primary partition to boot in legacy BIOS mode, which is not possible for GPT.)
I am running Trisquel GNU/Linux x64 on a twelve years old legacy notebook using GPT partition table.
Example: MBR in storage devices used with old operating systems which don't support GPT and GPT with compatible systems when you need redundancy on disk partition table from storage devices (GPT makes easier repair partition table compared with MBR) or/and when you need manage partitions bigger than 2 TB.
