I don't know how I missed this earlier, but Microsoft seems willing to dump $70 million into Cyanogen. I know that getting Replicant on most phones is impossible and some people go for Cyanogen instead.

Essentially, get Google out of the system so that they can get thier own stuff in. Replace Gmail, Google Drive and Google search with Outlook, One Drive and Bing.

While some good will come out of this, that is the ultimate goal.

Hm. It'd be nice if MSFT would replace or rid of the non-free Google libraries in Cyanognemod. They probably would replace them with new non-free libraries, though...
*sigh* Wishful thinking...

Microsoft is just doing what they always do (Google and Apple as well), take from Free/OpenSource and then patent it and close it off. I doubt it has much to do with wanting Google out of Android.

This is why I'm pissed that exFAT became the standard for SDXC cards when the format has so many patents attached to it. Why couldn't something like F2FS been used and is truely open instead of forcing companies to pay for the right to use their patents?

These days people don't have a clue regards writable media filesystems, because it does not tap into their commodity logic. Proprietary stuff became invisible.

M$ profits more on "intellectual property racket" than own Lumia kindergarten tiles.

I think there should be an off-topic section for non-troll-hole-deserving off-topic threads.

Either my translator is broken, or that's a strange user name.

Agreed with an off topic section, but this post is by no means troll-hole quality.

Unfortunately, the original poster decided to link the more sensationalist and speculative article, rather than the report it is based from (it is linked in the first few paragraphs), which details some interesting statistics and does not try to force the reader into thinking in a particular way.

yes. The quality has been diminishing lately. That is exactly what I pointed out in this post:
