A proprietary BIOS is almost guaranteed, however that doesn't mean the community won't be able to liberate the machine given time :)

Also I had answered several anonymous surveys relating to this machine, and it seems Lenovo is very interested to see what GNU/Linux users want which means there's always a tiny possibility that the laptop would support Coreboot or similar.

"and it seems Lenovo is very interested to see what GNU/Linux users want"
do you have a link to this survey?

Here they are, there are 4 of them. They don't ask for personal information either so that's a plus.

Survey 1 - http://youropinioncounts.lenovo.com/s/RetroThinkPad/survey1/
Survey 2 - http://youropinioncounts.lenovo.com/s/87869/Survey2/
Survey 3 - http://youropinioncounts.lenovo.com/s/98rtj45/Retro/S3/
Survey 4 - http://youropinioncounts.lenovo.com/s/34o9859/Survey4/

I'm pretty sure they're still interested in feedback since the surveys are still online.

Liberating a modern Intel CPU isn't possible. See:
