No changes with dconf

Hello everyone,

I've got Trisquel 7 Mini installed.

I'm trying to change a few settings, I would like the screen saving feature
disabled (after a certain period of time the screen shuts off), as well as
disabling the trackpad.

The only places I see these options available for editing is in System
Tools > dconf Editor. I am able to find the settings under "org > gnome >
settings-daemon > plugins > power" and "org > gnome > settings-daemon >
peripherals > touchpad" respectivly. However, the change doesn't happen
when I click the box, and restarting the computer doesn't make the change
happen either!

Any ideas what's going on? Does it have anything to do with the fact that
mini runs the LXDE desktop and the full version runs GNOME? If that's the
case, how can I make comparable changes in LXDE/mini?

If this is easy for anyone to figure out, do you have any ideas on how to
enable a second monitor? When I plug an external monitor into my laptops
VGA port, I get nothing. I've tried to look at "preferences > monitor
settings" but I get a "Unable to get monitor information!" error. Any other
ideas?

Thanks a lot,

~Andrew

On Trisquel 7 (not Mini) with GDM (I do not remember if it used to work with LightDM, the default display manager in Trisquel), the screen does lock after some time specified in "Brightness & Lock" (in the "System Settings", that you can probably get on Trisquel Mini by installing the package named "gnome-control-center", but 'dconf' should be fine too).

I tried installing the gnome-control-center, all it did was give me a
window of all the things I already have, including the non-functional
monitor settings... any other ideas???

I believe you need to install the "gnome-screensaver" or (and?) the "gnome-power-manager" package too.
