A notebook without display... and some ideas to use it anyway

Hello everyone,
I was very happy with my asus notebook. Everything worked fine with just free software.
Unfortunately, I stepped onto it someday and because of this, the screen was damaged.
I bought a new screen and installed it; unfortunately, the bottom of the plastic frame of my laptop began to glow and the plastic melted at one point; I saw, that the problem was a big heat development concerning my display wire.
After doing a bit of searching the internet, I concluded that there was no way of getting such an identical cable and I made the somehow overhasty decision of breaking away the whole display frame and using it as a normal desktop pc.

But somehow, this isn't really convenient. The output to an external screen is bad because of the low resolution and after all, the notebook is just to good for this purpose.

But what can I do?
I only need the notebook inside my flat, so the solution doesn't have to contain mobility outside the flat.
I just want to lie down on my couch and have the thing on top comfortably.
So if there exists a device like a keyboard with a display, which can be connected to the pc via bluetooth, this would just do the job.
I have another notebook, an older one;
If only I could "stream" the display information on this notebook and access my newer one with his keyboard...

I know, those are kind of crazy ideas.
But perhaps someone of you has an idea, too, and perhaps even a possible one.
Problem: I don't have any money at the moment and very little money in the future.
So it shouldn't be expensive .

VNC can be used to access an X desktop using another machine, it doesn't
handle accelerated 3d graphics. Another way is to use X over the
network, both solutions have some advantages.

There are many VNC servers, I don't know which ones to recommend. (I
use also x11vnc, it has a different purpose: it shows a locally used
desktop.)

(I used remote X to access a higher resolution screen of a machine with
a modern GPU instead of the SiliconMotion graphics card of my laptop
that has bad VGA output quality and slow drivers.)

You can also use SSH.

Well, a solution without 3d acceleration and with a big loss of performance would not be very suitable, because using my old laptop offers me such a solution already.
I will read a bit about vnc and try it with ssh. Thank you so far.
