Password on a live image

I'm trying to add a wireless network while running off a live image on a usb-stick. When I do that, a prompt for the password entry appears. Since this is a live session, there is no password (at least no that I know of). Is there some standard password for a live session, or some other way of editing the network settings while in a live session?

You could set the password to something you know with the passwd
command.
AIUI WiFi passwords are stored in the (encrypted?) GNOME keyring. If
your session is set to logon automatically (as per a live CD) then the
first time you enter a WiFi password you will be prompted for a password
for the keyring. You'll need that password subsequently to enable WiFi
access to whatever access point you are using. My USB card behaved this
way.

Thank you for the help. Unfortunately, it turns out the wireless card needs a non-free firmware. Added both the card and the laptop to h-node, will have to use a cable from now on.
