Hi to everyone. After an update I had no internet connection with the kernel 4.4.0-186 in my desk pc with an old 64 bit Pentium D. Usually I use a wireless N USB GNU/Linux adapter model TPE-150USBL by Thinkpenguin.com. I have removed the latest kernel and the desk pc now works very well with the kernel 4.4.0-185 and is perfectly updated. Is perhaps my wireless N USB adapter not suitable for that kernel? Thanks for the attention.

Hi again. I have noticed the same problem (no internet connection) with the kernel 4.4.0-186 even on an old 32 bit HP 510 notebook. On this notebook I usually use a wireless N USB adapter for GNU/Linux model TPE-N150USB by Thinkpenguin.com. Even in this case I have removed the latest kernel and the notebook now works very well with the kernel 4.4.0-185 and is perfectly updated. On an old 32 bit ASUS EeePC netbook the latest 32 bit kernel works well, no internet connection problem. It is strange.

I noticed this issue with my USB wifi on both my laptop and desktop. The laptop uses trisquel 8 and kernel 4.4.0-186-generic while the desktop uses Trisquel 9.0 and kernel Kernel 4.15.0-112-generic. I wonder if this has anything to do with this bug:

https://www.parabola.nu/news/ath9k-wifi-devices-may-not-work-with-linux-libre-576/

https://labs.parabola.nu/issues/2824

"if you have a USB wifi device which uses the ath9k or ath9k_htc kernel module, you should postpone upgrading to any of the 5.7.6 kernels; or the device may not work when you next reboot - PCI devices do not seem to be affected by this bug"

My PCI wifi works and my Manjaro desktop also doesn't work with a different USB wifi since upgrading to the kernel 5.7.9-1-MANJARO so it seems similar. My USB wifi does work with kernel 4.4.0-119-generic. I have just created an issue for this but wanted to share my findings here as well.

When I use ath9k-htc, I always need to first create a hotspot, then disable the hotspot and re-connect to WLAN. It's because that ath9k-htc firmware (albeit free/libre) doesn't work with MAC randomization. And this is why I always suggest that PCI/e-based ath5k/9k be used whenever possible (i.e. not restricted by firmware whitelist).

I have a single-antenna super low-end AR2427 from Asus eeePC, and it's still much better than AR9271.

Installing the linux-image-generic-hwe-8.0 package? See: https://trisquel.info/issues/27129

Have I to install even the suggested packages?

No, you do not. linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-112-generic, in dependence of linux-image-generic-hwe-8.0, is apparently the package providing the support: https://trisquel.info/forum/trisquel-software-update-broke-my-wifi-connection#comment-151114
