Problems watching DVDs with VLC or "Videos"

Hello everybody!

Since upgrading to Trisquel 8.0 I can't watch most of the DVDs I have. Although the discs are recognized and the autostart menu opens, VLC starts playing but in an instant stops again. The debug window doesn't show any messages. "Videos" starts a new window and immediately closes again. The two DVDs I can play with both VLC and "Videos" have in common that they don't use Dolby Digital 5.1

Does anybody have an idea how to save the problem?

Thank you!

Are the DVDs encrypted using the DRM scheme CSS? (see https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/enable-dvd-playback , however I did not check if the instructions there still work right now)
If you already bypassed CSS, then I'm not sure what's wrong.

As I have just replied to AdamHoles:

You can play DRM-defective DVDs on Trisquel. To do so, libdvdcss is required. It is free software, under the GNU GPL. https://code.videolan.org/videolan/libdvdcss hosts the code. However, Trisquel does not distribute the related libdvd-pkg package, probably because it is in Ubuntu's multiverse repository. You can download it from https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/all/libdvd-pkg/download and install it (by default, GDebi is installed and allows to simply double click on "libdvd-pkg_1.4.0-1-1_all.deb" in the file manager and then on a button to install).

After installing libdvd-pkg, it must be reconfigured (otherwise, libdvdcss is not actually built and installed), for instance by executing in a terminal:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg

After installation of libdvdcss2, I can watch DVDs as usual.
Thank you, everybody!
