An even better suggestion would be to actually *fix* the problem by:
1) finding someone capable of writing the libre driver/ firmware required, and asking everyone with non-working hardware to put in some $ towards paying them to do so. I would happily chip in a few dollars if the hundreds of other GNU/Linux users with the same chipset would do the same.

EDIT: I'll admit that I haven't had much success with crowdfunding in the past (not pushy enough I suspect ;), but I'm willing to give this a go, using Goteo.org, if someone can help me identify a hacker(s) available and willing to do the work.

Or failing that:
2) fixing the linux-libre kernel (or whatever piece of software is responsible) so that it logs the absence of the driver/firmware *once*, instead of over and over again.

Or failing that:
3) fix the logging system so that /var/log has a maximum size by default, and the system automatically deletes older logs instead of GZipping them and keeping them until they fill the available partition

Or failing that:
4) Have the graphical installer create a separate /log partition and put the logs there by default

Sure, and I've done my best to follow the instructions given, or ask for clarification. But triaging epic fails in other people's software is not my fulltime job, and as indicated above, there are solutions that could have been put in place when someone first struck the problem. That way, I wouldn't have lost hours of work time trying to help triage this bug.

I have run the suggested tail command and put the outputs in comments on the issue report. I'm not sure what else I'm expected to do.

Apologies if this comment comes across as grumpy or whatever, but when I'm already feeling genuinely frustrated about this and other problems with running Trisquel on my laptops (described in other threads), and then get told off by Moxalt for my choice of words, it's somewhat corrosive to my goodwill.

EDIT: Moxalt made a genuine bleeding-eyeballs mistake (misinterpreting the intention of text communication late at night), and has very graciously apologised. His comment on the 'angry red button' thread have been very helpful and supportive. I'm feeling a lot better about everything :)
