Some troubles with 5.5

I'm trying Trisquel 5.5 and I' m very happy about it. Today I found two things that are not running properly, I don't know if it's only my problem or if it's a problem of the distro...
I cannot view the battery information from the panel, the icons is there, but if I click on it nothing happens.
I cannot open synaptic, if I click on "Gestore dei pacchetti" (italian) synaptic open and close in less than a second...
Does someone have any ideas?
Matsetes: I'd suggest to run Synaptic from a terminal emulator and see the output.
Do: alt+f2, gnome-terminal (or simply Ctrl+Alt+T), type: "gksu synaptic".

Also with the terminal shortcut... Nothing to do for synaptic... It open and
close at the same time...
For the battery there is no problem, if somebody has already told that to the
GNOME developpers... I think that it will be fixed
Matsetes, your Synaptic issue might be similar to this:
http://trisquel.info/en/forum/help-55. Try the suggestions in that thread to
see if it makes a difference.
The battery issue might be an intentional Gnome design choice. I also cannot
click, so I must hover the mouse to see the remaining time. When I press the
key combination on my laptop (Fn+Battery) it displays the Power Statistics
screen where you can find the capacity and other information. You can also
run the command: "gnome-power-statistics"
I tried removing the accessibility, but nothing has changed...
If you don't require the accessibility functions, try running
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility false
This made Synaptic again work for me.
If I remember well, I activated and then deactivated the screen reader. Then, the Synaptic package manager could be run without crashing.
As for the battery indicator, it works in Gnome Shell, which is installed by default. If your video card allows it, you can switch to it by simply selecting "GNOME" at the login screen. To become efficient with GNOME Shell, one definitely needs to read this page. And do not miss the to ability to extend GNOME Shell in one click on this page.
I noticed that this Synaptic crashing doesn't occur if I installed 5.5 clean
slate. However it did when I upgraded from 5 to 5.5.
I tried the code given by lembas and now it's ok!
Thanks a lot!
For the battery no problem, I'll wait, it's not too bad.
Other troubles....
When I turn on my laptop it has always the audio set to off... Also if it was
on when I turned it off...
I have to do this? Why it's not on default such as in Trisquel 5.0? With
Ubuntu 11.10 everything is ok, it's a bug of 5.5?
Another problem...
Now Abrowser open always the last pages and windows closed. And if I change
the option in preferences when I close it the option is reset to "open last
pages and windows"...
Another problem... =(
When I press CTRL+H in the home folder, nautilus also make the icons
smallers...
An upgrade initially, after I had to reinstall it from CD, but I didn't erase
the hard disk...
I don't know if the battery icon from the tray is suppose to respond to click, in the xfce4-panel it behaves the same.
I also found "The Battery Info - It also gone. This helps me to view whether my battery capacity is low or high ? Helped me in lot of laptops to identify battery problems." here.

This finding could help somebody why would like to use both accessibility AND synaptic.

Then write some script to set the volume and mute settings the way you like and include it in the startup process. Remember to give the script executable permission.
You can use the amixer command to change such things audio related. Then include the script in e.g. System settings -> startup applications.
That could be too late if you want to hear some sound at startup, then you'd have to include the script earlier in the startup sequence, i.e. in /etc/rc2.d/. See /etc/rc2.d/README for more info on that.

This doesn't happen to me either. Maybe there's something funny with your install or then it's your hardware which is different from mine...

Is that a fresh install or an upgrade from something older? Sometimes there is a difference...
