Hello everyone;

I am currently in the midst of converting my programming group over to Trisquel GNU/Linux, and would also like to switch all of my other services / products over to a "GNU Friendly" alternative. By that I mean, something that respects my freedoms. Currently the group is either using Hotmail (Which I think is now called Live?), and GMail. Currently, I reside at a GMail address, but would much rather not be in their hands. Are there any alternatives to GMail that you have experienced or any practices that you use? (Currently I am getting into OpenPGP, though I'm not sure if that is quite in the right direction).

Thanks in advance!

The best choice is always hosting your own e-mail. If you can't, though, and you don't want to pay for the service, there's Riseup.net.

There are a few suggestions in this thread:
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/lavabit-shut-down-due-us-government

Also, the FSF has some webmail suggestions if you don't want to host on
your own:

@DeckardCain

You have different possibilities of choice, look at http://www.autistici.org/en/links.html.
The service from autistic/inventati is good, logs free (I'm an old user). No difficult to obtain an email account, blog and so on. For an email account on riseup you need two invitation code, may be not simple; aktivix.org, service offered on a friends to friends basis, also not simple.
