This release is a fully free Ubuntu 9.10 derivative that includes extra
software, better multimedia support, more translations and a faster
configuration. For this release we used Ext4 for the root filesystem
and XFS for the home one, to have a balance between speed and
usability. Some important features include a much faster boot process
and the ability to encrypt the home directory.
All packages were updated, including:
* Linux-libre kernel 2.6.31
* Xorg 7.4
* GNOME 2.28
* OpenOffice.org 3.1.1
* Mozilla based Web Browser 3.5
You can find the 32 and 64 bit installable Live CD images in the
download section, along with the source code and torrent files -which
you can use to help us by seeding the isos-. Talking about help, you
might like to lend a hand in our wiki, hunt and fix some bugs or start
hacking with us on our next release, the second in the LTS branch, and
the most promising ever!

Great stuff. Hoping that the ibus issues I've been having are sorted.
Why XFS for the home directory by default though? XFS is incredibly
incredibly slow when it comes to deleting files.

Great! Will the new program versions also be available with a system update?
BTW, I had some issues with the announcement video: the video and sound worked fine, but the progress bar was not running from left to right and I could not pause the video.
So, what's different between this and the release candidate?
As far as I know this should be the same as the RC plus any updates made. The following was published when 3.5 RC was released:
"This RC release will be fully supported: if any change is done to it
before it becomes the final release, it will be applied via the
automated updating system so you will not need to reinstall it."
Great. Will 3.0 users get auto-updated to this new version?
This is good news, I look forward for updating. Just pointing to a problem in 3.5-RC which I do not know if may also be present in the final release: the (meta?)package "kubuntu-desktop" in the repos seems to cause problems after installation. Apparently it affects somehow Gnome:
- Memory usage raises quite a lot (more than 400 MB with no application open).
- the mouse icon(?) (puntero) changes to that of KDE.
- it installs "kubuntu" splash, which is shown all the way until login screen.
The above mentioned issues reproduce after repeated rebooting.
Within KDE:
- it offers the installation of Firefox (on a popup window)
- shows an advert about the new Kubuntu release (10.x) (on a popup window as well).
After removing by hand all KDE related packages, everything seems to have come back to normal.
I add some issues updating from 3.0 to 3.5:
1) With a (almost) complete installation of KDE on 3.0, very similar problems to those mentioned in the above post (3.5-RC) are observed (no "kubuntu desktop" package implied in this case, just KDE base and others). Among other things it changes in Gnome the default web-browser to Konqueror and the same memory usage issues already mentioned. Again, it seems to be solved uninstalling everything related to KDE. After that, installing Kdenlive and suggested packages for Kdenlive seems to cause no problems. Perhaps it should be necessary to find out which KDE package might cause problems in 3.5 when you install KDE along with Gnome. Besides, as far as I remember, KDE seems to have issues and not work properly also on last versions of Ubuntu (standard Gnome version), so it might be a problem deriving from Ubuntu.
2) There is some problem regarding "nouveau" driver. Along system update it returned some issue related to being unable to update and/or configure "nouveau-kernel-sources". The package is installed according to Synaptic and when you try to uninstall it (are sources necessary in order to run the driver?), Synaptic tells you it will also uninstall "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau". The thing is that additionally to some other issues regarding dualhead not observed on 3.0, every time you install some package (not related apparently to nouveau), Synaptic returns a message concerning a failure to configure "nouveau-kernel-sources".
I can see the announcement is quite new, but when I download it I get a different MD5.... has anything changed in the server?

Check the one on the web site. Remember there were several release
candidates. Maybe one downloaded one of them before or your download is
flawed.
