Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I often find IceDove's search function challenging to use, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

For example, I recently searched for " shipped" to locate a tracking number, but even though the email contains all these terms, Icedove doesn't display it.

Is Icedove's search function really this flawed? Have any of you found tools to make it work better?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

_____________

TL;DR Does anybody else struggle with using IceDove's Search Function? Have you found any tools to help it function properly?

Icedove has different search features. Are we talking about the most complete one, which can be launched with Ctrl+Shift+F or from the menu Edit/Find/Search Messages...? It allows to search in the email bodies, whereas the so-called "Quick Filter" does not. I mostly use the latter, to search in the subject and correspondent fields. However, I sometimes use the former too, to search in the bodies. Both seem to work well here.

EDIT: Ark74 is right, as usual: the "Quick Filter" can search the bodies with one additional click on the related button that appears after you type your search.

I use Icedove heavily through the day and the search function works fine, the "Quick Filter" works on the current account "folder" you are looking at that point, and you can select from the different search/filter options to look up into:

  • Sender*
  • From*
  • Subject*
  • Body*

Not all of them are "on" by default, and you can disable them to narrow your filtering. Body* is "off" by default, so you need to turn it on.
