"On 21 February, Apple stopped offering its end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) Advanced Data Protection (ADP) service for users in the UK. This decision is reportedly linked to the UK government's request from January 2025 for Apple to create 'backdoor' access to user data stored in its cloud servers."
I'm not sure if this also includes domestic solutions such as NAS boxes or FreeNAS and/or encrypted email but may be worth looking into ways to protect your data.
Does anyone have any ideas on Cryptomator? It apears to be FOSS and GPL3, it seems to be transparant where the encrypted folder is held, Local/LAN/Cloud.
Thanks

This is one of the solutions listed on the archwiki, so I guess it is something reasonable to use.
The other solutions listed are to create an encrypted filesystem, using gocryptfs or cryfs. To create such file systems with a graphical interface, you can use plasma vaults if you use KDE, otherwise sirikali.
All of this is available in Trisquel repositories (not cryptomator).
Apple always had a backdoor in their E2EE anyways, its not a huge deal if people are smarter enough to ditch proprietary garbage.
I don't know if Cryptomator is okay or not btw, I never tried it. It looked suspicious to me, but you do you.
I could very well be very wrong.
