It will not work, if you do not install software which is not in the main repository. I do not know about debian 9.

I just bought from computer repair's shop trash. TRENDnet TEW-424UB (Version 3.1R) for 1EUR.
Works like charm, but beware there are 2 versions of this device white one and blue one. You need BLUE, white has other chipset which hasn't freeware drivers.
