Dino (package dino-im) and Gajim (with the package gajim-omemo) are clients that I have heard of and that are in Trisquel's repository. They support OMEMO.

There is a flatpak: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gajim.Gajim

Notice that the older version in Trisquel's repository already supports OMEMO.

I install flatpak form the PPA. My question is, flatpak is free software? only flatpak not flathub

(the flatpaks now works fine)

Flatpak is free software. It is frequently discussed here. https://trisquel.info/forum/ubuntu-snappy is probably the last occurrence

The package psi-plus-plugins contains OMEMO support for Psi+. Use the following command to install Psi+ and its plugins:

sudo apt install psi-plus psi-plus-plugins

Please keep in mind that the incoming OTR v4 will render OMEMO totally useless.

Debian's official lurch package (purple-lurch) is still in testing, so it will be available in Debian 11, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, or Trisquel 11. If you wish to install it from Trisquel's official repository, you'll have to wait for 4~5 years (depending on Trisquel's development progress).

There are also XMPP client like gajim or dino whose OMEMO support is currently in Debian stable. However, either gajim or dino doesn't support OTR, and this is why I never endorse them.

Compiling it shouldn't take more than a few minutes on a low-end computer.

What do you all think about Movim? https://movim.eu

I think Movim is very promising and I even think its user interface is as excellent as Element (Riot.im).

Now i need a client for Android. This is going to be for my family and friends, need to be easy to install and setup, and of course free software. What you think about blabber.im (the new pix-art)? is free (as in price) on PlayStore, have a introduction and a free provider by default.

For iOS users i use ChatSecure. What you think about it?

Thanks for everyone!

One of my friends uses iOS. She tried out a lot of different XMPP clients and none of them were good, but if I recall correctly ChatSecure was the least bad.

This should work
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/eu.siacs.conversations/
ChatSecure is fine but if I remember has some interoperability issues with Pidgin related to offline messages.

You think that friends and family can install F-droid, Conversations and then change the provider? the default Conversations server end in 6 months i think.

Blabber.im not have that problem but have other rare thing:

Anti-Features:
* Tracking - The map preview image is generated by a script that loads OSM map tiles on the developers server. The server will log: date, time, GPS coordinates, zoom level and an anonymised IP. (source: f-droid)

More info: https://codeberg.org/kriztan/blabber.im/issues/304

What i should do?

And again, thanks everyone!

Conversations can also be installed via Google Play. It is better to use F-Droid, but if your friends and family refuse to but would otherwise be willing to use Conversations then you can just tell them to install it from the Play Store.

IIRC, Conversations lets you input your own XMPP address when you start using the app. It should not be hard to use another server. The main point of friction will likely be creating the XMPP account, unless you recommend a provider with an easy signup process. I like disroot.org, because it comes with email, NextCloud, and other useful things, but the signup process is kind of annoying. dismail.de is just XMPP, but it has a quicker signup process.

I don't say them to install nothing, but if i say them to install F-droid and Conversations, probably they going to do it. Before when i was using Signal, i install the app myself, i think that i don't going to have any problem now. For them i going to use the servers: chat.sum7.eu, trashserver.net and i going to look dismail.de.

All of my question are been resolved, now is time to start chatting :)

Thanks!!

To chaosmonk,

Regarding disroot.org, I also like it, and just 3 days ago signed up
my first account ever. I can confirm the registration is now easy and
even without recaptcha. That was my experience and I think it could be
interesting for you.

Are signups still not accepted on weekends, and does it still take a day for your account to be activated after signup? Those are the annoyances I was referring to. I understand the reason for them, but when I am trying to help someone get set up to use XMPP, they add a lot of friction. If signup were fast, I could show the person everything they need to know in one sitting. Because of Disroot's signup process, I would first need to show them where to sign up, and then wait until the next day to show them how to configure and use their XMPP client.

AFAIK, Gajim is the most fully-featured XMPP client. I use it for everything from IRC to SMS, via transports. The only downside of Gajim is that it does not have OTR support. You can use OMEMO and/or OpenPGP, via plugins.

I am currently using Gajim v1.0.1 that comes with Trisquel 9.0. I do not have any complaints.

If you want OTR, I'd like to suggest Psi/Plus and Pidgin on x86 and Xabber on Android (F-Droid).

Most XMPP clients dropped OTR support in the recent years, but OTR is far superior to OMEMO. One important security feature of OTR is deniability, which is not supported by OMEMO.

Gajim supports or will support encrypted audio and video calls (DTLS-SRTP) like Conversations? and what about stickers like Signal?

I known that reactions now are implemented by Movim and maybe, are going to be implemented in other clients like Gajim.

The next version of Gajim (1.3.0) implements chat markers i think.
