https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp#installation

As of late, youtube-dl has been very slow at downloading videos, only some 50-60-80 KiBs.

There's a new downloader -- yt-dlp.

Oh wow, that's so much better. Thank you thank you! ytdl's slowness was killing me the past month.

And if you want mpv to use it - I deleted youtube-dl from my system and linked yt-dlp to where youtube-dl's binary is normally placed:
sudo ln -sf /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp /usr/bin/youtube-dl

mpv immediately worked once I did the link, and much faster than it's recently been running.

Here's a frame from an episode of Explaining Computers (Colossus & Other Early Computers).

It shows a platter from a disk drive, on display at the National Museum of Computing.

Joe: "Hey Frank - toss me a disk, I want to save something to take home and work on."

Frank: [crushes Joe's rib cage by throwing a 4mb platter at him, collapsing both lungs] "Is that big enough, or do you want the 8mb disk?"

Truthfully, I got into computers around the DOS area, just a little fun fact about me...

And no, I didn't play doom till like a decade ago or less.

I did play games though for sure. ;)

Flickr has a better photo of the same platter.

It is a Bryant Model-2 Disk File indeed.
