MPLv2 is a free license, so the addon itself is not proprietary. However, since YouTube videos are a blank white screen if JavaScript is disabled, the addon is not useful without YouTube's proprietary JavaScript. Is that what you mean?
If so, I agree. The addon might guide people toward youtube.com. It would be better to stick to recommending software that can access YouTube videos without visiting youtube.com (youtube-dl, mpv, vlc, youtube-viewer).

actually this is an error on my part but i agree with you i do recommend using freetube https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube/
Trisquel 8.0 support ended in April 2021.
