On Trisquel 6.0 you need to do a dpkg-deb --info on the downloaded .deb to expose the bug.

Have coded and tested a patch for this which is on the trisquel-devel mailing list at:

Following DNS888's example I've put my git repo online. So the patch is now also available as branch issue7969 from the repo
