"halt" doesn't seem to halt machine properly

Using command "halt" shutdowns the laptop with the backlight being turned on.
Power button has to be used to shut it down completelly. While "shutdown -h now" shuts down the laptop completely. Probably the bug is being linked with the bug #8073
