Taranis
The 4.0.x LTS edition, codename Taranis, was released in September of 2010.
Taranis is an LTS (long term support) version that was supported until May 9, 2013 (Desktop) and April 30, 2015 (Server). It is no longer supported.

This release is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and as always it contains only free software, including:- Common

The distro has several editions:
- Trisquel, for home use
- Trisquel Mini, for netbooks and old computers
- Trisquel Edu, for schools (not yet released)
- Trisquel Pro, for small enterprises (no yet released)
- TOAST4, our version of the Sugar Learning Platform (not yet released)
This version features a brand new look. Exaile has replaced Rhythmbox as the default music management application. For photo management, Shotwell has been added. Video editing is made easy with the addition of PiTiVi. The Empathy messenger client has replaced Pidgin. Finally, for using scanners, the GTK-based Simple-Scan has replaced the old X11-based XSane.
In this version, only English and Spanish languages are installed by default, to conserve disk space. All other languages can still be installed after booting into the desktop.
All of the editions support 32 and 64-bit architectures.
