Advice Please: Trisquel Suddenly Booting To Blank Blue Screen.
Hello all.
GNU/Linux and Trisquel Neophyte here. I have Trisquel Mini running alongside LMD Mate, on an old Dell Inspiron 1520.
Just recently I booted up Trisquel - which has been running without a hitch - and the login screen is now appearing a flat blue screen with the User, Desktop:, and Language: input fields, ( as well as the date in the upper right corner, and Quit button in the lower right. )
I input the username and password, and it loads to a black screen, with a cursor but no control over cursor.
Any thoughts on what is happening?
I'm guessing something got corrupted and I need to reinstall.
But I wondered if it was something I could fix by using the install disk?
Thanks for any advice.

And it is not 7.0, but the previous edition. I was going to upgrade that day, but then this happened.
Do the TTYs work?
Can TTY be accessed before user access? Login doesn't produce anything but the black screen.
So: not that I can tell. (But again, neophyte).
Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and see if you get a tty login prompt.
That worked: I did get to the login prompt, thank you.
What is next ?
You enter your login, your password, and upgrade your distribution by executing:
$ sudo do-release-upgrade
Magic B,
Yes, I did see the option to upgrade. However:
In this case I'm not trying to upgrade, but simply return to normal for the version I had.
I'm not on Trisquel 7, but the previous edition. Sorry if I did not include that info.
I would ideally like to know what is happening to my current system.
(Plus, as a new user it might be better for me not to move to Trisquel 7 right now, and wait until the bugs are fixed? Unless this is result of needing to "update" to the Trisquel 7, which sounds weird. )
Thanks,
Zem
Since you wanted to upgrade and since Trisquel Mini 7 uses a different display manager (LightDM instead of LXDM), the distribution upgrade may solve your problem. That is why I was suggesting it.
Try apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade .
I would advice trying
sudo startx
And see what happens.
Thanks all for the advice.
I tried all advice above, from Banana, David, and Quantum, but no effect.
I suppose I need to reinstall?

Thanks to all who helped.
I ended up just reinstalling, and updating. No problems now.
