Hello, foffo! There is no way to know if Trisquel GNU/Linux (the correct name) will work on your computer unless you try it out. You can download a disc image from the download page (https://trisquel.info/en/download) and run it as a live CD. Whether it works or not, please submit the results to h-node (http://h-node.org) so others will know how well it works with free software.

I can't make any guarantees, but if the computer has an Intel graphics card, and an Atheros wireless card, it should work.

EDIT: Wait until some other members more competent about hardware compatibility than I come along.

The most probable output will be "everything working but the Wifi". So, expect a small additional expense for replacement card. You can order it at ThinPenguin, which internationally ships its devices and guarantees that the hardware is compatible with Linux-libre, hence with 100% free GNU/Linux systems such as Trisquel: http://libre.thinkpenguin.com/

"Wireless:802.11n"

I think there's actually sa prettydecent chance of Wi-Fi working.

Alternative to thinkpenguin would be Tehnoetic (https://tehnoetic.com/tehnoetic-wireless-adapter-gnu-linux-libre-tet-n150). They're based in Romania so might be cheaper shipping. That being said I bought the wireless G adapter from thinkpenguin a while ago and it was shipped from their UK warehouse so shipping cost wasn't unreasonable and it arrived very quickly (I'm from UK).

It was also mentioned on this forum recently:

I know the site, I did not want to spend much. I have a budget of € 350

The cheapest option on ThinPenguin currently is that USB adapter ($21.97 + taxes + shipping): https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-wireless-g-usb-adapter

You can as well search for used devices where the seller indicates the chipset (typically with 'lspci' if it is internal, 'lsusb' if it is external).

You can buy this one, that I use myself (plug it: it works!), for less than 10€: http://www.ebay.it/itm/Wlan-USB2-0-TP-Link-TL-WN722N-Adapter-/360911237623?pt=Wireless_Networking_WiFi&hash=item5407fc71f7

Anyway: wait for the laptop. You may be lucky (an ath9k chipset).

You'll probably have problem with your wifi on Trisquel but that is conditional upon the specifications. You'd better email them and request the full name and manufacturer of the wireless card. After that, we would be able to answer accurately.

I could then take the wifi card that I have recommended and so would solve the problem with the asus laptop

I have the X200CA, which seems very similar to what you are getting, and works flawlessley with trisquel, minus bluetooth (which I think is useless) Right click requires a little bit of configuration to work, but that is very easy.

I got it quite recently, here is a thread I posted asking people to suggest, which concluded with me getting it.

User "Andrew" has one as well, I think.

Yes I do. :-)

Your review is spot-on - I also noticed the Bluetooth issue, no other
issues otherwise.

Andrew.
