A couple of months ago, I purchased one fully upgraded X61 with 8 GiB of RAM. The total price roughly equals to two (very rare) 4-GiB DDR2 SO-DIMMs. So I purchased two said DIMMs and got remaining parts for gratis.

What I need is to replace the WLAN card with AR5424 or AR5418. Because it supports much larger memory than X60 (8 GiB vs. 3 GiB), I could use it as a server within my local area network.

If you are going to use it as a server, why would you use Wifi? You can use Ethernet Cable?
Or is your Router not in the same room as your server(or where you want to place your x61)?

Btw, nice to have paid that amount for your laptop ;)

Update: I have ordered LCD cables for SXGA+ panels (from X60t). If I could receive them, I'd like to purchase SXGA+ screen for it.

Current SXGA+ support requires introducing certain blobs from X61t's BIOS. But hopefully coreboot (still under development) could resolve it.
