This bugs seems to be inherited from ubuntu, so it should not be in gnewsense.
Therefore I try to build my packages in a gnewsense chroot instead.
A couple of us are encountering this problem. It's bad because you need gtk dev to compile lots of code. I managed to fiddle with Synaptic to quickfix it.
