Can't boot Trisquel 8 from USB

Hi,

I would like to ask for assistance in installing Trisquel 8 as I'm
unable to boot from the USB. I used the dd command to create a bootable
USB as described in this link
(https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-create-liveusb). I've also used the
same command and USB in installing Trisquel 7, Parabola, Dragora,
gNewSense, and Pure OS on various computers. It seems that even if I use
other USBs and redownload the ISO I'm still unable to boot with Trisquel
8. Ive tried doing it on 3 laptops and a desktop but it still won't
boot. I've ensured that I use Legacy/CMS on the BIOS.

I hope you guys can shed a light on this one.

I personally used Trisquel 7's graphical "USB Creator" (or whatever it is called) to create a live USB from http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso/iso/20171223/trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso

That said, the problem may be with the recently cooked (today!) ISO.

What is the date of the ISO? I had that problem with the one from last December. I saw that a new one was uploaded yesterday but I haven't tried it yet

I used the latest one this February 2018.

Drat. I was hoping the problem would be fixed with the new ISO. I'll try it this weekend and see if it persists for me as well.

What machine are you using? I had this problem with the December ISO on a librebooted 64-bit ThinkPad X60. I had no trouble with the ISO preceding that one.

I used an ASUS X453M, an ASUS X101CH, a generic desktop (not sure about
the specs), and an HP Pavillion dm1. Both ASUS laptops can use most of
the distros in the FSF list (incl. Trisquel 7) with wifi and camera
working. I used a TPlink usb on the Pavillion to make wifi work on
Trisquel 7.

What's new in the February ISO? Downloading it as we speak. I may have to burn to USB drive with the archive mounter or something; sounds like the standard 'dd' approach doesn't work?

With the December ISO neither dd nor Startup Disk Creator worked for me. With the previous ISO from last summer, SDC did not work but dd did. When I have a chance to back up by files I'll try installing with the new ISO.

I had the same problem with my libreboot machine so I had to burn a DVD. Startup Disk Creator only works with BIOS/UEFI.

After installing Trisquel I installed GNU Ring.

I could not get the 2-17-18 .iso to boot from USB or from DVD ... I am now using an .iso from January from jenkins and it works fine. I should be able to apt upgrade up to the new changes right? I used dd ...

[Update: I finally got the DVD to work, but not in install-mode or text-install-mode, only in Live CD mode (Try Trisquel) and then used the installer, once in the live CD. Enjoying it very much, and using the free buster driver for AR9271 usb wireless, and using the installed OS to write this message right now.]

The latest greatest February 16 ISO won't boot from USB. DVD boots but there's a big wait until it lands on TTY Login.

This is what I get on my HP Probook.

Trisquel 8 ISO, uploaded 2018-02-20, boots fine from a DVD. I burned the ISO with growisofs.

http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso/iso/

growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso

I tried installing insight3D and while trying to remove some broken packages in the synaptic package handler (not sure on the exact name) I ended up stripping T8 bare. It did not boot up once I rebooted.

Does anyone know where I can find an image of trisquel 8 that boots once I burn it on a USB.

I have searched the web with no luck.

I read in this thread that the one from January works but can't find it anywhere.

Or can anyone make the one from January available where I can download it.

I tried all the links in this thread and none work.

I've only tried them on a USB.

Thank you for any and all help.

Just tried the new 3/20 ISO. The problem still hasn't been fixed. Back to 6/19.

I used UNetbootin to make a bootable USB drive. I had no problem booting and getting to the desktop. The latest ISO 03-20 works fine with me.

Yes, it seems that some people have this issue while for others there is no problem, so I wonder if it is a hardware thing.

I quote quidam from last Friday meeting:

>I was able to replicate issues with booting the live cd on real computers (works
>fine on vms). I think it is one parameter in the live cd boot, that should be
>deprecated (the one that makes it wait for usb)

So hopefully if it is not fixed in that last build it will be soon.

Great! Thanks for the information.
