can't restore bookmarks with .json file
Good day to all.
I have this problem because I have reinstalled Trisquel in my (e)machine(s) due to forgotten passwd login. I had this bookmarks.json file wich I have in a pendrive but when i go trough the process:
->show all bookmarks;
->import and backup;
->restore;
->choose file...
appear a box that says:
"This will replace all of your current bookmarks with the backup. Are you sure?"
-> I click yes and chose that bookmark.json file that i have...
but it doesn't work!
I am doing some error?
By the way can I do the same thing using command line?
.if yes. Where is the bookmarks.json file?
Thanks one more time by your time and patiente.
Many many thanks.
Hugs for everybody.
Dunno why that's not working. When you insert a USB key, I believe Trisquel by default automatically mounts it under /media. If not you can do it manually too. Also, next time you forget your password, it can be reseted, no need to reinstall everything.
I assume the OP knows where is the bookmarks.json located on his USB stick and is asking where should that file be moved on his hard drive, lembas.
But it may also be the senility, I'm 83 years old after all.
I guess the file should be placed in /home/.mozilla/firefox/crfdsfs.default(or whatever)/boomarkbackups
OP: make sure the bookmarks toolbar is visible (in preferences find the setting "show boomarks toolbar), which is not by default in FF if I remember correctly
Hello all again;
first of all many thanks for your patient and time responding to my questions.
This is what I have done so far:
->I have not the problem of mounting or unmounting a pendrive. I had that problem but the forum once again was so kind to help me in that aspect too. Many many thanks to the magnific forum!
In fact I have the *.json file copied to my Desktop folder, so I can use it from there ( it could be a problem of communication with the pendrive so I want to foil that problem too).
->which is incredible is the fact that I had done those steps that I told in other occasion and had resulted completely and with absolute no problems.
-> I have the bookmarks toolbar visible.
-> By this time I had tried to copy the bookmarks.json file to .mozilla/abrowser/7lotmd0a.default/bookmarkbackups/ and still haven't success. Nothing new happens!
What I am doing bad??? I don't comprehend!
If the forum could help me and have the time for it I would much very much appreciate that.
Many many thanks to the intire community and keep up the excellent work!
Hugs to all
errata: I had copied the bookmarks.json file to .mozilla/abrowser/7lotmd0a.default/bookmarkbackups/ and the file is there but still haven't success. Nothing new happens - my bookmarks menu remains unaltered.
Hmm, probably the json wasn't saved properly by your PC, try open it with a text editor (gedit) and see the text in there, so as the worst option you should have the urls there..
The normal way to "export" the bookmarks (through the related window that one can get from the "Bookmarks" menu or with Ctrl+Shift+O) gives an HTML file, not a JSON file.
Eh, mybe the Magique is onto something there. Try converting the json to html
Hello everybody.
I've managed to solve the problem. Apparently the problem were in the .json file that I had. I experiment going to the other linux (mint) machine that I have and getting a new *.json file do the same as usual (bookmarks>Show all bookmarks>Import and Backup>restore>chose file>myBookmarks.json) and it worked without a flaw.
I wan to to thank to all the time and patience you all have: many many thanks to all!!!
See you more soon than later I hope;
Hugs to all
