Celestia - libre planet textures

Using a vanilla install of Celestia to create an image of Jupiter as seen from Europa, it seems that the only textured planet is Earth.

I can't see another package in the repos for Celestia textures.

Looking for a Trisquel specific step by step howto guide, for installing some common textures (planets within our solar system, well known spacecraft/asteroids etc) from a libre source.

Has anyone done this ?

Or a link to a bug report for the reasons they have been pulled from Trisquel main would help out too.

Thanks for reading this

I'm not sure how to help, sorry.
Just stopping by to say that "LibrePlanet 2015" looks nice. :)

OK, to everyone else, question still stands.

IIRC NASA data is released to the public domain. Can anyone link to these libre texture sources that could serve as a base to create a texture pack?

thanks

Yes!

Starting with a direct Stellarium texture import looks like the first step.

This list helps a lot. Thanks.

For anyone wanting to see additional planet textures in Celestia, the new texture pack is now available here:

https://archive.org/details/AdditionalCelestiaPlanetTextures

It uses textures from the stellarium-data package, with no modifications to the image files.

Makes the planets look nicer but may not be accurate for astronomical calculations.

No .deb package yet and no plans to make one. Install is a one line cp , detail in docs/README in the tar.gz .
