We can have a support from Iron that is based in Chromium, jus like Chrome, the diference it's that Iron respet your privacy.

It will come the day when chrome will take over chromium, it's happening right now, the alternative is Iron browser.

Check the diference with in Chrome and Iron

http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php

PS:Iron can be installed in Linux and windows, it's also have a .deb package so can be installed in ubuntu, trisquel :) and Debian

What your guys think.

Abrowser already respects user privacy; why should we switch over?

"Hello good Day I'm a User from Iron Browser, i used in linux and Windows becouse a like to protect my privacy and i'm not a fan from Google Chrome who's eating to Chromium, wherever.

My reason to been writing this message is becouse exist a Linux distribution called "Trisquel" it's full free software
http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.en.html
Im proposing to include Iron Browser as a default Browser in Trisquel, so i has been opening a forum trying to discuss this.

Before to Continue Trisquel is Based in Ubuntu so it can be used .deb packages, I return to what I was saying, the persons in the forum are telling that Iron is not complete free software becouse of somenthing of a license of BSD.

I don't like what Google Chrome it's doing not respecting your privacy, so i propose to this alternative to include Iron in Trisquel and put relations, What your guys think?, can we make Iron all free software? i expect a answer."

What's so special about Chromium based browsers compared to other WebKit browsers such as Midori, Epiphany and Arora?

Chromium browser only real alternatve for Abrowser/Icecat browsers, IMHO.

1.Chromium have a lot of extensions.

2.Chromium have Vrome and others Vimperator-like extensions.

3.Chromium can play some patented formats, like mp3.

But on the other hand, Chromium have disadvantages:

1.It is semi-OpenSource. Some parts of the code not even under permissive or copyleft licenses.

2.It have problems with privacy.

I think, we must set free Chromium. This is very bad, then we are have ONLY ONE libre browser.

Freeing Chromium has been discussed before. Trouble is, it's never gotten past the discussion phase.

What sort of privacy problems does Chromium have, by the way?

Last year I took it upon myself to clean up th licensing problems with Chromium, but the source is so messed up with multitude of files in multiple directories, with different, unclear licenses, and many of them without any licensing information at all. Many files are there which have comments suggesting they were reverse-engineered from the Win32 api. Removing folders pertaining to other platforms resulted in failed builds. That's why I finally gave up.

Maybe the condition has improved, maybe not. I'm thinking about taking it up again as soon as I sort out my own life.

Hello grvrulz,

Thanks for your help. :-)

If you do get the time in the future, there is a bug report related to
the licensing issues for Trisquel at
https://trisquel.info/en/issues/4353. If you have any findings or
recommendations, it would be great if you could put them there.

??

They don't publish the source code, that's why it's certainly not free and will not be considered. Chromium itself has some dodgy bits and isn't included either.

>Iron is issued by SRWare under an "all rights reserved" license, indicating that it is made from a combination of proprietary and free software, although in download page SRWare claims "Iron is free and OpenSource."

Hahahaha.

No.
