Does anyone know whether the Canon PIXMA MG2550S is fully compatible with Trisquel 9?

Looking at H-Node no one has added that model yet but the MG-2522 works with free software so I think it's a good sign that something from the same series works with similar distros.

Yes, I'm aware of that entry in h-node. A printer salesperson told me that, in Europe, the equivalent of the MG2522 is the MG2550, but he was unsure if the MG2550S is any different, especially with regard to its software, which is the most important factor in this case.

Did you eventually have the opportunity to try it?

No, because I have to purchase it first and it's also lacking some basic features such as automatic duplex printing.

Are you looking for a printer?

I was considering the possibility for some of my family members to use Trisquel. Their current printer/scanner is not supported, so I was looking for replacement options.

At home, I am using a scanner/printer that I can interact with via the network, it can be used without installing any non-free software on the computer to print or scan (scans are uploaded via FTP), but I guess the printer itself is running non-free software, I bought it at a time I was not paying attention to that. Besides, that kind of device is usually rather expensive (I bought it at some rather exceptional sale).

Have you found any?

Which one is it?

Don't they all?

It seems that way. The free software movement was itself started because of software freedom problems over a printer.

I was hoping no but maybe you are right. So perhaps using a network printer is not such a bad option.

I have this same printer and i can say both the scanner and printer work totally fine on Debian, Ubuntu and Trisquel and of course can be used with CUPS, it uses the Gutenprint printer general purpose driver (GPLv2+) last time i checked. A word of advice though, it consumes metric tons of ink, if you plan on using it regularly (daily or even weekly) you'll have to get ink cartridges quite often and in a year you could spend much more in just ink than in the printer itself.
