Hi there! New user, happy to be here!

Recently stumbled upon gx which is a decentralized package manager utilizing IPFS.

Here is a good article on some of the big ideas, https://medium.com/textileio/decentralized-code-distribution-for-the-future-of-open-source-2dc58f1153b2

It is a medium article, not sure if thats libre (probs not), so if someone wants me to post the text in a different way happy to do it.

There are tutorials on how to use it, but the authors make it clear that it is not production ready.

Anyways, wanted to post this here to start a discussion about how linux distros could include this, and the pros/cons of it.

I think this would be very beneficial for the free software movement because no single person would have to store the packages on their own server, which costs money and poses a risk for the future of the project. I also think it would be a very accessible way for others to support the project by replicating the packages on their own local nodes.
