Do you support Santi to handle the project?

Today, I posted a message to trisquel-devel mailing list[1] and asked Ruben to grant more privilege to Santi to handle the project. I used the term 'handle' because I didn't know what the exact word I must have used.

It seems that Ruben has been very busy recently and lack of his participation in discussions and development is completely obvious.

Do you support Santi (aka Aklis) to gain more privilege? I do not mean that he must substitute Ruben, I mean he is a trusted member in Trisquel community and will probably be able to lead the project finely. What is your idea?

I would appreciate if you answer on https://listas.trisquel.info/mailman/listinfo/trisquel-devel

No ideas? You prefer letting this project die?

No, please.

Just a Trisquel user here. Don't know any Trisquel developer
other than Rubén. How can I say anything? I don't know the people
involved. Trisquel developers should make their choice amongst
themselves.

"...letting this project die?"

Why do you think it will "die"? Because the release of Trisquel 8 is happening 'too slowly'? Slow progress is not the same as no progress.

This is not our call. Trisquel is not a democracy. It is Ruben's project. If you are suggesting Santi help Ruben, that is Ruben's decision. If you are suggesting that Santi become the leader, that is ultimately Ruben's decision as well. It is Ruben's project. Ruben has to decide who, if anybody, his successor will be. It is for Ruben and Santi to decide what they want to do. It is not our decision, and Ruben is not asking for our advice. So...I don't understand this thread!

If you simply cannot wait for Trisquel 8, nothing is stopping you from developing your own distro!

https://trisquel.info/en/forum/do-we-have-date-trisquel-8-release

In the last post of the above thread, iscutwo says:

"...it took 7 months from Ubuntu 14.04 until Trisquel 7, and 11 months from Ubuntu 12.04 to Trisquel 6. So at that rate we would be waiting at least until early 2017. Let's hope not, but let's keep reasonable expectations. I'm excited to see what comes!" [my emphasis and strong tags]

Somebody should make a sticky which clears this all up.

I understand why you wonder I started this thread.

> Ruben has to decide who, if anybody, his successor will be.
I didn't mean Santi become his successor. I meant Ruben *can* give him enough privilege to take the necessary steps while he is absent.

This is Santi's post on developers mailing list on April 24 [1]:
> Right now, we are waiting for Quidam to release the flidas repositories needed to do a basic debootstrap, the first step needed to add the new release to our jenkins instance, so everyone can start working on it.

So, we are waiting for Ruben to start the development of Trisquel 8. It has been delayed solely because he is absent.

> It is not our decision, and Ruben is not asking for our advice.
I think Ruben does not act in this way. He might have been busy but I have never heard him trying to shut the community up.

> If you simply cannot wait for Trisquel 8, nothing is stopping you from developing your own distro!
I don't want to fall into the trap of starting a new GNU/Linux distro. Trisquel GNU/Linux exist and I prefer it.

> how can one decide such a thing? it is something that needs be talked between the two of them.
I'm trying to get the opinions within the Trisquel community.

> So at that rate we would be waiting at least until early 2017.
I'm trying to push the project forward to release it sooner. Just waiting for the new release to come out is easy.

"I'm trying to push the project forward to release it sooner."

This is my whole point. You cannot push to make them release it sooner. You have no power, they will release it when they are ready.

"Just waiting for the new release to come out is easy."
Whew! Awesome! I'm glad you realize that it is easy. Now you can wait like the rest of us and stop this annoying 'pushing'!
