Donations
Hello,
I want to donate to Trisquel project but I can't as Paypal does not work with Serbia (Montenegro and FYR Macedonia too). I suggest you open skrill (moneybookers) account and public your email so I can send you money.
Yours,
Uros
You should contact quidam (Trisquel leader) because he may miss your post. You can try this form. However, from my experience, the best way simply is to write on the #trisquel IRC channel.
If you don't get a more direct solution we can probably set something up to take donations for Trisquel. We could only accept credit cards though. It is sort of a round about way of doing it which ends up with unnecessary duplication of transaction costs though.
I'm not sure if this is possible although there may be other ways to reduce the transaction costs involved in donations. In the US one can stop into a bank and deposit funds directly into another persons account. This works if you are on one end of the country and the other person is on the other. You do generally have to stop into a branch of the bank in which the account holder is apart though.
Intentionally you can probably do something similar. It would require a bank account at one of the largest world banks in order to get enough branch locations in enough places for it to be feasible. HSBC for instance has branches all over the world. If you are in or near a major city there is probably a branch near you.
Well I wrote this on irc and one user point me to some service named "Flattr" where Trisquel has profile. However that Flattr service is not good solution because it skins for monthly bill (2 euro for using that service monthly ?!
want to take 5% of my donation ?!)) That is usury worse than bank!!
On the other hand superior moneybookers service would bill me 0.1 euro for transaction. I don't see reason why project leader quidam or someone from developing team would not just open moneybookers account and allow me and others from region to give donations. http://www.moneybookers.com/app/skrill.pl
I can also pay you via my credit card (VISA) but you have not that option on your web site. I guess it would be more complicated to make that processing solution. FSF might help you with that because they have that solution on their web site. They might open account for direct supporting 100% Free GNU+Linux distributions and other projects.
I wrote a letter using that above form.
I believe it is 2.9% for the initial charge of the credit card and then there is another 3% or so to transfer that to the Trisquel project.
It would be nice if there were a cheaper means of conducting transactions online. There really isn't a readily accepted alternative though.
It would be nice if bit coins or something similar took off. There are problems with it although the general concept of electronic cash isn't bad.
That Flattr service also has some code in perversive proprietary technology caled "flash" on their main page (http://flattr.com/ right side tv picture with text "or learn more") which can not be played in Abrowser.
