Dual Monitors with Trisquel

I have Trisquel installed on a laptop and want to connect it to a monitor and have use of dual screens. On Ubuntu things work well, I just connect from monitor to laptop via VGA and have dual monitor setup. This procedure does not work with Trisquel.

What kind of graphics card?

I have had flawless, impressive performance on this from Trisquel. Which is job-critical for me, as I'm a trainer. As soon as I plug in to a projector, Trisquel does a good job autodetecting and turning on the screen.
