Hi,

I've been testing e17 windows manager (enlightenment.org) included in the Trisquel PPA, as it was recently recommended somewhere on this forum and it sparked my curiosity.

_Question #1: connman front end_

I'm very impressed, but had a hard time installing e17's preferred network manager, "connman."

I succeeded in installing "connman" itself. It uninstalled gnome network manager and I had to configure it via command line with difficulty. However, I cannot figure out how to enable the gadget/gui/applet for the desktop.

I've concluded I must install econnman, listed in the second table here: https://www.enlightenment.org/download, under application. I would rather do so from a ppa which includes this and other enlightenment related files.

Any help in this respect would be greatly appreciated.

Which brings me to the next question...

_Question #2: Moksha Desktop license status_

Bodhi Gnu/Linux forked e17 a while back and turned it into Moksha Desktop (http://www.bodhilinux.com/moksha-desktop/). The project looks very interesting but I have not been able to find information relating licenses for "extra modules." Basically, I'm afraid to add this PPA and open the door to proprietary software.

Saludos libres,

Moksha is free software according to the license in the tarballs on https://github.com/JeffHoogland/moksha/releases/tag/0.2.0

Those instructions probably work on Trisquel 7 (they will almost certainly work on Trisquel 8): http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/enlightenment/installing-moksha-desktop-on-debian-jessie-70307

Thanks a lot Magic Banana!

I was doing some more research regarding Moksha and came across the following thread:

I use Linux and open source software because it works with what I need. The fact that most of it is free and open is just an added bonus. What you are asking for has no functional benefits for end users.

Not to mention you don't seem informed on the fact that we don't even use the Enlightenment desktop by default any longer.

I don't think I'd like to try Moksha after all :|

Enlightenment 17 has been quite an interesting experience so far. I still have not installed a frontend for connman, which is a bit of a pain in the ass. There are a few desktop clients to choose from, I've found the following list:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Connman

I may go back to Gnome Shell.

ps. Xmonad (tiling window manager) was an interesting experience a while back, but required changing work habits quite a bit as well as a lot of customization.

I really like Enlightenment and I'd love to see a distro added to the FSF endorsement list that uses some version of Enlightenment as the default desktop. That was why I asked that question on the Bodhi forum, rather than reinventing the wheel. That response from Jeff is disappointing, and the ill-informed comments from others even more so (100% free software = "religious"!?!).

I will make the same enquiries among other distros that use Bodhi by default, but if I keep coming up empty, it may be that I might assemble a group to start a new libre Englightenment distro at some stage.
