the end of irc freenode
Because I'm blind and criticized by the community for my disability.
I spent half of my childhood and life in irc communities
its Good society and I learned a lot.
But now the free node has crashed.
I feel like I've lost my country..... I lost my home
Will I come back alone as in my childhood?
What about the Matrix
Does it have freedom problems, are his Communities good
have fun and be free

You may have missed the recent events with Freenode: most free software projects (the FSF, Trisquel, Ubuntu, Wikmedia, etc.) have moved their channels from Freenode to Libera Chat, a new IRC network created by former Freenode staff. Here is the website: https://libera.chat
I haven't used it yet, but as I understand it Matrix is an open, federated protocol, so anyone can set up a server and they can communicate with each other. The reference server implementation is free software under the Apache license, and there are numerous clients that you can use. Basically Matrix seems like a more featureful version of IRC.
But also be careful about Matrix.
"...we were not able to justify a full relocation of the FSF and GNU's official channels to a Matrix server. Doing so would create the unacceptable situation of encouraging a large number of users to run nonfree software in the form of nonfree JavaScript, which is used by the flagship Matrix.org server to authenticate users."

Being part of the group that was deciding what to do I can say that the concern with moving to Matrix was that it would be a tacit endorsement of that, since it seems almost *everyone* uses matrix.org.
Very informative, Jason. Thank you!
I'm guessing that is because of the Recaptcha?
A solution for people interested in using Matrix while avoiding matrix.org could be to run their own servers using https://www.freedombox.org, which can make running a server feasible for many people.
That said, I am unable to say whether the Matrix server available on the Freedombox is having all the features that people using Matrix usually expect (I am saying that based on the limitations of the XMPP server, which is not that useful to me now as uploading files is not supported). I just tried to use it but since I never used Matrix before, I don't have much clue yet. I get I need to find some reason to use it with someone.
