Always hear stories about "the old days" of friendly competitions in forums, whether its art related game related or writing related, and get kinda bummed that a lot of that lifeblood is either missing or has moved elsewhere. Between the different (but always tech focused) forums I've used over the years, I've wondered what a kind of competition like that would look like in these spaces. A fun game with 10$ on the line, a code for 6 months of xbox live, I feel like it would be fun to bring that back. If you had to think of something, what would a good competition for forums like this be?

I don`t recall any competition in the old days.

There was some scale modeling forums in which people would submit plastic or wooden scale model photos for others to judge their skill with an x-acto knife, glue and paintbrush. The winner would generally be rewarded with a brand new plastic model kit.

But for video games or other related stuff I don`t remember anything like that, maybe some people giving others bad steam games as a gift just for trolling.

One thing that we definitely had in the "old days" was the flame war. It was very, very common, even in well-behaved forums. People would fight for the minor things and the participants would scale everything to the highest degree even with death threats.

Nowadays I think the only thing that could work would be crypto rewards for good articles (non AI slop writing is becoming harder to find by the day) or something like that.
