free drivers for Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01)
As n the topic, I tried to find it, but not luck. IF anyone knows of a free driver for:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01)
It's for the Gateway NV56R14u laptop (Intel Core i3-2328M, 64-bit).
This adapter cannot be driven by free software only. You can replace it with hardware from ThinkPenguin or from Tehnoetic (the only two vendors I know that guarantee that Linux-libre can drive their hardware):
You can also trust somebody who reports that she recently bought a Wifi adapter that works with Linux-libre. I bought several of this adpater in December and Linux-libre could drive them: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=243&model=TL-WN722N
It is possible (maybe not probable) that the chipset on that adapter has been changed since then. The chipset is what matters... and it is never indicated on the package (so that the manufacturer can change it).

First of all, some of the original drivers of that modem are not compatible to GNU-LINUX libre programs.
The close drivers are proprietary, but the other Open drivers are under the GPL license, for everyone to download and study. but those GPL drivers will sometime, disable some of the functionality of the modem itself. Because the firmware demand the proprietary drivers own by the manufactures.
When I encounter issues like this, the first step is, What are the GPL firmwares supporting this product?
I'll be polite to you, but you need to do your homework first AND RESEARCH THEIR WEB SITE for the GPL drivers THEY ARE USING! and take it from there.Trisquel forum is the Wrong web site to teach others, How to flash firmwares.
Why don't you buy a compatible Mini WIFI card from Think Penguin? I had purchased 1 mini PCI for my laptop and still working without issues so far.
OK Christ of thinkpenguin, I just promoted your business, take my 2 cents payments and added to the Trisquel donation agendas as a form of payment.
The driver is under the GNU GPL. The firmware is non-free. Without it, nothing works.
So is there free firmware and drivers that would make this network adapter work?
Like I said, jodiendo - I researched and I didn't find anything. Plus my knowledge is not as big as your so go ahead and be mad at me for not knowing!!!
Why do I have to deal with assholes all my life? Wait! I don't! and YOU don't have to help others if you don't want to!
Tihs is MY version of being nice to you. How do you like it?
Not the firmware, sadly.
Regarding Jodiendo - (s)he's actually pretty nice. OK, that's not the world's most polite post upon my 1st look at it, but (s)he's otherwise pretty nice, albeit with some of her/is jokes making him look like an "arsehole" until one properly understands it. Maybe Jodiendo misunderstood your post somehow (otherwise I wouldn't expect to find words like "flashing" in the reply).
Tone down his post a bit, though, then yeah - The Trisquel forum (or anything other than a search engine, most of the time, including the product's website) isn't the best place to look for these things.

Sorry for my tone and attitude, I was in the middle of a business call.
Did not realize my tone was a bit over board until I read my reply again. The conference call and the expected customer did not go to well. I refuse his offer, hes numbers did not match my numbers. All because they lack knowledge, when it comes to WiFi installation at a commercial level and are lazy on reading contract agreements and warranties.
My apologies again.
merci mon frére
