Hi,

I tried to post this before, but for some reason it was marked as spam, and didn't show..

Using Trisquel 4.5.1 and liking the "I'm using a free distro" feeling.

Hardware:
AMD Sempron 140
Nvidia Geforce GT 220 PCI-E
1GiB RAM

Currently, the only issue I'm having is Trisquel freezing/hanging. I think it may have to do with the video card, but I'm not sure.

Checked h-node to see if my vid card was listed, and found this: http://www.h-node.com/videocards/view/en/154/nVidia-Corporation-GT216--GeForce-GT-330M---rev-a2-/1/1/NVIDIA/undef/undef/PCI-E/undef

Note the "GT 216", on Wikipedia the GeForce GT 220 and 330m have the same codename, so I thought it may work since the 330m did.

Below is what another user did:

"installation of libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental (or nouveau-dri respectively in Parabola GNU/Linux-Libre) is needed for proper GPU acceleration"

http://www.h-node.com/notebooks/view/en/100/R580/1/1/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef

And it worked great, it didn't seem to freeze, and I was able to play yo-frankie fairly well.

But after a few hours it froze again.

I read this: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg.nouveau/7185
It somewhat describes my situation.

What are some things I can do to further troubleshoot this issue?
Will I need to use another video card, is it even the video card?
I'm sure checking logs could help, but not sure which, could anyone point me in the right direction here too?

Help is appreciated, thank you.

Check out the logs (in particular dmesg) to see what happens just before a freeze (the logs are timestamped). You can find a graphical log viewer in the System/Administration menu.

Yes, you would have to check the logs to find the specific problem. I would highly suspect it is because of your video card though. The drivers you installed are experimental which is likely the culprit. I have used them to play warzone 2100 which plays fine for the most part but has frozen once in a while. However openArena freezes almost immediately.

This is to be expected when using experimental software unfortunately.

Not at the computer at the moment, but I'll check the logs.

I think it's the vid card too.. sadly.
But, it happened before I installed that driver, I thought it would help.

Thanks everyone, I'll post back the log if I can't understand something.

Cheers.
